My favorite pictures usually appear under some specific circumstances:
- I’m in an unfamiliar area.
- It’s early or late or some situation has arisen where I’m able to venture out into an unfamiliar area alone.
- My wanderlust draws me to an area I did not expect to be in.
What is frustrating to me is that these three circumstances are very difficult to meet in every-day life, so my every-day pictures tend to be unsatisfying. Furthermore, I tend to take my best pictures at some distance between me and the subject, as noted by the increased focal lengths in my favorite pictures.
All this adds up to a situation where I realize that I’m uncomfortable taking pictures up close, and I also fail to find inspiration in scenery that I’ve encountered before.
What’s a boy to do? I guess I should start getting all up in people’s faces.
